SHOULD YOU CHANGE YOUR HAIR COLOR TO MATCH THE SEASON?

First and foremost, we often get asked if it’s necessary to color your hair according to weather changes. Our answer is an emphatic YES! Just as you swap those strappy opened toes for booties, you most definitely should warm up hair tones to compliment the cooler season.

This applies to all shades of hair color, but especially to blondes! Talk with your colorist about the appropriate shade to mix into your current color to give your hair that sweater-weather-latte-in-leather-gloved-hand vibe. Too far with the fall cliches? Yeah sorry, but you get it now don’t you?!

YES! BUT…

Even with all of this said, if you prefer platinum year ‘round — you do you baby boo. Nobody puts baby in a lowlight… er a corner.

WHAT’S CUTTING IT FOR 2020

We can tell you about 11ty billion things not “cutting it” for 2020, but since this is a hair blog we will stick with the correct angle of the intended pun and talk about Fall 2020 haircut trends.

BANGS

Proceed. With. Caution.

Baby bangs are popping up everywhere in Hollywood right now, but unless you’re Halle Berry or are in need of a social experiment in how to gracefully handle fake compliments, pump the breaks.

Now curtain bangs on the other hand might be just the spice your overgrown Covid hair needs. This is a great choice for a low-key change up without a whole lot of commitment.

curtain bangs + fringe = love

curtain bangs + fringe = love

FRINGE

Loving this wispy, tousled look for any hair length! Channel your inner Brigette Bardot (we all have one) and go for it! This compliments most face shapes, and your stylist will shoot you straight whether this is the right look for you. In addition to fringe lengths and layers around the face, you will see lots of variations on the tried and true shag.

MAY WE BE BLUNT?

Screen Shot 2020-09-28 at 1.39.57 PM.png

Lol. As if we would ask.

Back to that overgrown Covid hair… a nice blunt bob might be just the ticket to shake the 2020s off as we head into a new season. Blunt collar bone length and jaw-length bobs dominated the runway and give off that I’m a boss and we both know it look to take it (whatever it may be) to the next level.

Which trend are you most excited to try?

Top 7 Summer Hair Care Tips

Wherever you currently land on the CoVid gamut, from travelling internationally to wearing a mask and gloves in your car, we’re judging you.

Wait, what?! We’re here for you. We meant to say we’re here for you.

While there’s clearly a lot going on socially and emotionally for everyone, one thing that is always a safe (lame) topic is the weather.

And we can all agree it’s hot as Hades in Fort Worth.

When it’s hot, we want to get in a body of water. And when we get in a body of water, whether it’s chlorine infested or questionably algae infested, our hair suffers. Keep reading for our favorite summer hair care tips to keep you in tip-top shape! (Your hair, not your ass. Get real plz).

TIP #1

Screen Shot 2020-06-18 at 2.10.22 PM.png

Wear a swim cap. This one’s quite chic don’t you think? Seriously though, if you’re Lucy Lapswimmer, you better have one of these handy (especially if you’re blonde!) unless you want green, broken brittle hair.

TIP #2

Wear a hat. Yep, the same advice your esthetician gives you applies for your hair too. Newsflash: The sun bleaches your hair. Your days of glorious lemon juice highlights left with your bikini body Freshman year of college in case you missed the memo.

TIP #3

Use the Kerastase line Bain de Soleil specifically formulated for “sun-exposed hair” inclusive of a Masque Apres-Soleil (aka an “After Sun Mask”), and since it’s in french, you know it’s legit.

TIP #4

Air dry your hair every once in a while. We love Lait de Soie by Kerastase Aragan Oil  for those of you blessed with natural wave or curl when you choose to go au natural. You know whether this is you. If it is not you, you may try to air dry when you know absolutely no one will be seeing you later that evening. Otherwise your chia poof will be turning all the heads and not in a good way.

TIP #5

For the love, come get a trim! And get them more often. Keep damaged ends at bay with regular upkeep and make momma happy. I’m not sure why momma ain’t happy, but if she’s wearing a mask and gloves in her car when it’s 101, maybe that’s why?

TIP #6

If you wet your hair with fresh water before you get in the pool, your hair will not absorb all of the chlorine.

TIP #7

Don’t let pool water dry on your hair. Rinse it out!!!

Happy summah to all! Come see us. We’re open with cold drinks and colder AC.

  1. 7x Allure Best of Beauty winner Color Wow is the perfect answer for covering grays and dark roots. It comes in eight shades ranging from platinum to black and couldn’t be easier to apply. The formula mimics the natural sheen of real hair without looking waxy, and it’s even water-resistant! (Sorry if you thought this would plead your case to continue poor shower hygiene habits). The brush application allows you to be thoughtful with where you place it, making it a good choice for those with highlights.

  1. Loreal Hair Touch Up Instant Root Fix is another great option! This one comes in 6 different shades, and might be the better choice for gray coverage and/or roots needing all over color. This lightweight formula dries in seconds with no sticky residue and lasts until your next shampoo. Peroxide and ammonia free.

Refer to this post for tips on how to give you hair some real self-care and a reset! You’ve seen the dolphins in Venice, you’ve seen the smog lift in LA… let your hair do the same. There’s no reason to treat and tease it to high heaven when there ain’t nobody to see it. Unlessssss, unless, unless, doing so makes you feel normal. In which case, tease and spray on, Young Grasshopper.

Spring 2020 Hair Trends

COLOR trends

Would you believe us if we told you that dark roots and half and half hair are topping the apparent hair trends for 2020? While both of these do not top our ‘do list, there are a few trends we can get on board with and we think you might too.

We are loving the warm brunette colors popping up everywhere. While the blonde may be having more phone, these coifs scream sophistication and a little bit of mystery. Our stylists can help you achieve this look from chesnut browns to dark chocolate as well as the trend of weaving caramel highlights into darker shades of brunette for a multi-dimensional look packing a lot of punch.

Orchard reds a la Zendaya compliment her gorgeous skin tone, but as we all know, not everyone can rock the red. Chat with your hair designer for the best tone for your skin, not Zendaya’s. Ain’t nobody else got gold tones like that.

When it comes to highlights, everybody’s talking twilights. No we don’t mean Edward Cullen and whatever her name is, but according to Harper’s Bazaar, twighlights are taking the hair world by storm. What’s a twilight, you ask? “It’s a mix of babylights and ombré highlights,” explains Brown. “They should look very subtle but create a natural, dimensional look. Think a brunette with golden undertones that grows out very nicely.” We love this look!

If you’re a little edgier and your inner lioness just can’t keep quiet, we’re peeping some lilacs and blues and pink-dipped tips, but maybe go for a temporary dye just in case.. ya know. It’s horrible. May we also suggest you toe-tap the water with streak. This looks fresh and fun knotted into a messy bun.

haircut & style trends

As far as on-trend haircuts for 2020, the shag is back, baby yeah! Yep, all your Rachel dreams can be repeated if it just really didn’t work out for you in the 90’s. And with the return of Friends, we can’t think of a better tipping point.

Screen Shot 2020-02-24 at 3.20.17 PM.png

Length is also back… but did it ever really leave? Hmm, we digress. Regardles, keep your locks in luscious shape with Kerastase’s Extentioniste avaible at the salon. On the flip-side, the pixie cut is on a reunion tour so if you’ve been kissed with Tinkerbell’s bone structure, girl go get it.

Last but not least, the half-up bump is back and we’re here for it. This look slays 90’s glam and so will you. Not much for the half-up bump? Try a hair comb or two. Yes we mean it. Get outta that comfort zone and see what happens! No extra charge for the closing movtivational speech.

Healthy Hair in 2020

Let us guess… Last week you resolved to take better care of your health in some form or fashion. Whether by eating better, drinking less or exercising more, you’re focused on improving your health. And to you who doesn’t do resolutions: we know deep down you’re making subconscious decisions surrounding something health-related because the being who can resist the goal-setting allure of a crispy clean new year is as elusive as Bigfoot.

So now that we’re all on the same page, let’s talk resolution retention. How long does it reallyyyy last people? We hate to be Debbie Downs, but let’s be honest. With Rodeo season a minute away and Spring Break right behind it, temptation abounds. Before we go too far down the road of regret, here’s one health-related resolution you can keep.

Enter… Healthy Hair Habits!

- May we recommend the following for hair repair help: The Ultimate Reset Collection from Shu Uemura as the perfect restart to refresh the hair. Think of this as a visit to Canyon Ranch for your locks. Add in Thérapiste by Kerastase for a once a week reboot from here, and wah-la, luscious locks.

Screen%2BShot%2B2020-01-12%2Bat%2B1.03.54%2BPM.jpg

-  Upon indulging in Shu’s Reset Collection, go as long as you can before you wash your hair again. Yes we mean this. Please for the love stop stripping the God-given goodness out of your locks every waking minute. If you can make it at the very least every-other day or two, congratulations. One small step for hair-kind. Add in Color Luster Dry Clean dry shampoo by Shu to help offset the Kurt Cobain look while the natural oils in your hair adjust to the change. While this isn’t for everyone, neither is Keto. So. You do the math.

Screen Shot 2020-01-12 at 1.05.29 PM.png

-  After you wash, try to hold off on the heat as long as possible. Let your mane air dry a little longer than normal before using heated tools or skip them all together if possible! Less heat = happier hair.

- Diet. Omg jk. While eating more greens would of course help, we’re cool with a vitamin or two to do the trick. This brings us to vitamins and supplements. We love biotin and Vital Proteins’ Collagen Peptides or Beauty Boost for hair, skin and nail support. For real results, stick with the collagen for at least 2 weeks before you give up and place it by your Thigh-master.

 - Lastly, get regular trims! Perhaps you’ve heard the old wives’ tale you have to cut your hair for it to grow? Well it isn’t exactly true per se (because science), it certainly helps your locks grow out more evenly and healthier if you’re keeping in touch with your stylist at the salon at least every 8 weeks.

Stop by the salon for the Shu Reset Collection, Dry Shampoo and Kerastase Deep Conditioner. You can find high-quality biotin and Vital Proteins online or at Central Market, Whole Foods or the Sunflower Shoppe.

Happy Hair Health in 2020, people!
