All I Want for Christmas is SHU

The Holiday Season arrives quicker every year, and 2019 appears to be no exception. So while your Great Aunt Ruth bought your gift on QVC in May, you’re likely not quite checking your list twice at this stage of the game.

No fear! the salon has everything you need to give those on your list a gift they’ll love and they’ll have no idea you did a super-salon sweep for all of them. Unless you tell them. In which case, that’s on you.

Since we started with good ol’ Aunt Ruth, let’s check her off the list first. Ruthie has had the same hairstyle since 1998 and sees no reason to change it. Since you can’t teach an old dog new tricks, we think she’d love a pedicure, don’t you? Let her sit and relax (whilst knitting perhaps?) to enjoy a luxurious Spa Pedicure and feel like the queen she is in Tracey’s perfectly private nook.

If you’re married, your MIL undoubtedly appreciates the finer things in life even if those finer things are simply finer than whatever it is you typically purchase for her. May we recommend a Mason Pearson hair brush? This baby says “I have a stable job, I value your son/daughter, and I also didn’t get you another candle.” You’re welcome.

Your haute hippie younger cousin who spends weekends picketing for the humane treatment of ants yet somehow drives a range rover and rips juuls at 9am will love the greener kerastase line, Aura Botanica, and will feel “seen” and like you totally get her.

Your sister goes to your same hair stylist and she’s broke as sh*t. Get her a gift certificate to her fave gal or guy at the salon and spare us all her DIY highlights this spring.

STOCKING STUFFERS: Our adorable travel size Kerastase hairspray, shampoo, conditioner were made for stockings. Add in a gift card to Winslow’s, Lola + Lina or the Asian Health Spa, and you’ve got it in the bag. Pun intended.

At the salon, there’s a product for every hair type in your family tree, so stop in and let us help you pick some winners. Even if you’re the only one on your list ;)

Holiday Hair

Ahem. Hi, hello! Let this be your friendly reminder to *BOOK* for the holidays. With just 3 weeks until thanksgiving and less than 2 months until Christmas, the time has come to book your seats in a salon chair ASAP.

Now that we’ve set you into full panic mode with how many life goals you haven’t reached before it’s 2020, take a breath, grab a glass of wine (or a la croix - whatever side of the wagon you’re on), and come with us as we file through this holiday season’s most appealing hair trends.

We all know the holidays mean gatherings and outings. You want to look your best. You also diligently plan who you’ll see in which outfit, which night (N.O. repeat offenses people), and with all the parties and happy hours and gift exchanges, this can get daunting even for the deepest closets and pockets. So. What better way to differentiate your look than through that hair?!

We are still loving bows. They are festive and fun and whisper let’s party! without being aggressively off-putting. If you’re looking for more polish for one of your 8 crazy nights, this bow from our faves Lola + Lina packs the perfect amount of festive glam.

Low pony tails are all the rage, and what is more effortless than a low pony? Tie that baby in a velvet ribbon, and you’re the I woke up like this belle of the ball.

We also love this look with a gilded barrette.

Speaking of barrettes… they’re popping up everywhere too. Loving them on the side of the head a la Margo Tennenbaum, and you can also achieve this look by stacking several bobby pins. However, please don’t go too crazy. You’re not Lizzo.

Yes, you’ve seen the headband trend… and while we tend to shy away from something everyoneeeee is doing, this look can come in handy when your outfit just needs a little oomph. Buyer beware though. If you’ve got a face shape that doesn’t lend toward a top-knot headband, please phone a friend to shoot you straight. We like a headband for when the Thanksgiving coma makes jeans too tight, and we need to move the focus upward. You can also get creative here and make your own out of a scarf: just knot it in the middle and tie at the nape of your neck. Make a statement in the of-the-moment neutral navy by sporting this one by LeLe Sadoughi available at Lola + Lina:

Last but not least, we all know the 90s are back (they’re so back they’re almost out), and nothing screams waspy 90’s hair quite like the classic half-up/half-down look of days gone by… And if Duchess Kate says yes to it, so do we.

Happy holiday season! BOOK YOUR APPOINTMENTS!

the salon

Find your why buzzes around just about every millennial Instagram account in some form or fashion. Side-stepping any snide remarks as to why one feels the need to post several photos of their toes in front of beach in a cry to be #instafamous, we agree knowing why matters, especially when creating a business. So without further ado, here’s our why for creating the salon.

In building the salon, we longed to create a space where everyone matters and everyone has a purpose. We wanted an air of anonymity to accompany your visit as well. We are the catchall, the safe space, the salon. Personifying this desire, we often overhear the following cell phone conversation:

“I’m at the salon.”

“What salon?”

“The salon!”

And we love it! This is exactly what we wanted the salon to become: the place you get your hair done and escape for a little while. A place of anonymity with excellence where we cater to the every person. We are all part of the salon because we are ALL the salon. In addition to providing cutting edge techniques while also maintaining steady delivery of those tried and true, we long to make you feel at home here.

Furthering our why, did you know our logo’s font choice is especially meaningful? What font is more anonymous and inclusive than that of an old school typewriter? In choosing courier new, we desired to reflect just that - inclusivity and anonymity.

“Everybody has a name. Everybody has a purpose. We are all in it together. And every day is an opportunity to learn something new.” - Ian Lobreto

If you’ve been coming for the past 7 years, you feel it. If you’re new, we hope you’ll let us show you what it means to become part of the salon.

Stay tuned for monthly features of happenings in and around the salon! Thanks for visiting.
